THE MAIN FACTS -- How to get your real estate license
What are the requirements to be eligible for the state exams?
You must:
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Have high school education or equivalent
• Submit fingerprint card and records request to the FBI
• Complete a 96-hour state-approved Salesperson License Course
(equivalent of six credit hours)
• Call the test center and schedule an appointment to take the
state exam
• Pass the state exam with a score of 75. The exam consists of
120 multiple choice questions (80 questions on the general
section and 40 on the Kentucky License Law section). The
exam does include an additional 15 questions that are pretest questions,
for a total of 135 questions. The student is not graded on
pretest questions.
• Residency is NOT a requirement
• An attorney who passed the bar may be exempt from course work.

Is a criminal background check
required?
Yes. All persons taking the real
estate exam shall submit proof of a FBI Identification Records
Check as part of the
application
for a license. The cost of the FBI Identification Records
Check is $18. Your record must show that there have been
no felony
convictions at any time or any misdemeanors within the last
five years. Persons with any felony conviction or certain
misdemeanors should not enroll in classes until the KREC
has determined
their eligibility for a license.
What is the cost of
the State Exam?
The exam fee is $75 and must be paid
on the day of the examination. The test center accepts only
money orders, certified checks
and cashier's checks.

Typically, no exam is given on federal holidays or federal
holiday weekends. Official results are given within minutes
of completing the examination. To
